Rabid HiveRant: 1911 forum? Umm, try "uptight A-hole forum."
< rant mode on >
I'm learning more everyday about why folks who don't like guns won't listen to our side at all. WAY too many self-absorbed, self-annointed "experts" running to and fro' in this world lecturing everyone on just about everything whether they were asked or not. The majority of these pompous know-it-alls seem to fit the profile of either A) a 20-something SEAL wannabe with more money and time than sense, or B) a constipated retiree with far too much time on his hands. Both of them are certain that they know every last thing, that nobody else does, and the great, unwashed masses of ignorant, unenlightened gun owners desperately need their "help." Today's example: went to the 1911 forum to ask a few questions about collectible Colts. While there, I figured I'd ask where I could find a Safe-T-Blok for my Glock 26. That was all I wanted to know, just where to find it. What I got was 1 good answer and several insults and condescending lectures about when to carry, how to carry, how I have no business carrying, that I don't know what I'm doing, that I am essentially an untrained, know-nothing "civilian," etc. etc. * Remember: all I ever asked for was a retail source for a safety device. Naturally the Hivemind doesn't take patronizing lectures that gum up our questions lying down, so I requested that the curmudgeons in questions please crawl back under their rock and quit blowing up my thread. Result: thread closed, PM sent from a mod scolding me for my "personal attack," while the "experts" get a pass. Nice. Oh, and one more thing: I was also admonished for not using the Arial (default) font when posting. "If people just use whatever font they like, this board will be a mess!", I was told. Uh... yeah. Note to self: never again check an uptight, arrogant, know-it-all SOB when publicly accosted or harrassed. "Experts" rule the gun world as it turns out, although I must have missed the memo. THANK GOD I have Au Ag, Bill, and other real-deal gun sages to talk to when I have a firearms question or problem. < rant mode off > |

You forgot who you were dealing with: 1911 owners. The 1911 is like a blank canvas or an empty roll of film--one cannot simply leave it the way it is. How many companies exist only because of the aftermarket for 1911 parts? Why, if the gun banners were to simply outlaw the 1911 and the AR-15, half of the gun industry would collapse.
And here you are, inquiring about a Glock, a gun that works dependably and reliably right out of the box! OF COURSE they were incensed! I would be too if I had had to face reality after spending $5000 in custom-made parts for The World's Most Perfect Gun Ever Created. Luckily for them, you probably didn't pierce the veil. |

Gun nuts have a high percentage of anal retentive among their ranks. I bought some "trail running" shoes which were perfect for the type of running done in matches. They had a neat looking three color scheme with scallops. The guys I shot with kidded me about the colors of my shoes. So I went down to the hobby shop and bought some adhesive backed plastic filmy stuff in the same colors and cut pieces and put them on the slide and scope, in a manner that matched the shoes. these were bright, mostly pastel colors _really big grin_ Put some on my holster also. It was a real hoot to watch the reactions of the other shooters. The guys at the regular matches I shot knew me and laughed, cause I always liked to have fun. When I would go to out of state matches, shooters I didn't know wouldn't even bother to try to hide their disgust. They would get a look on their face that was like I had just peed on their shoes. They would make statements like " aren't you afraid somebody will mistake that for a toy"? I quit doing it because it was too much trouble to do, and when I ran out of plastic didn't buy more. A couple of years later at the nationals, guys were charging several hundred bucks to do your gun in a similar manner with acrylic paints. Make no mistake about it though, the large majority of shooters are very conservative and tend to be somewhat rigid in their thinking. Note: this is one reason there is not usually much leeway in their thinking in terms of their pet pistol, rifle, caliber load, etc Trust me - they are "right" and others are "wrong" |

Hive...
Most of those types have never used a weapon in a real world capacity. The one thing that combat and the military taught me, was to get your gear as comfortable to you as possible, both mentally and physically. I knew a few soldiers that carried their own personal sidearm (and YES this is legal in wartime). The higher ups usually frowned on nickel plate and cheap Saturday night special types, but as long as it was blued, serviced, and reliable it was usually authorized at the company level. The most favored???? The good old wheel guns in .357 or .44. Those clowns at the 1911 forum are mostly wannabes with at least 3 giant 1911 coffee table size books that they jack off to every night. In reality, most would soil themselves at the first sign of trouble in which they would actually have to deploy those sidearms. They disgrace the men that forged that great weapon in blood, sweat, and oftentimes tears. |

In retrospect I think you guys are on to something. Besides the "I'm right everyone else is wrong," thing, I mean. The mention of the word "Glock" is what seemed to get the ball rolling, but since I own both and don't suffer any angst over it I never would have thought that anyone else would, either. I never would have guessed it was a big deal. Did I mention that I am now Arial compliant? |

Nice, you know you could be complaint to the font of the forum, they didn't comment on size rules or colors right?
Well good luck with your firearms diversity/sensitivity training on the "other" forum and no matter what we'll accept your politically correct self back here anytime :signs1: |

I don't get why they add a '1' before 911.
911 forums, because dialing 911 protects you. :bear_thumb:  |
